2008 Porsche Club Motorsport Champion

Following on from the costs incurred racing to 4th place overall in the 2007 MAX5 Championship, Jez was contemplating the end of his racing career when Neil Chilleystone (ex Fvee racer) offered him a drive on a track day in his beautiful Porsche Club Championship Class 3 Porsche 944.

The car felt 'right' straight away, Jez instantly feeling at home and setting some astonishing lap times after just a few laps.
A few months later (and after a few too many beers) Neil offered Jez the car to race in the 2008 Porsche Club championship while he (Neil) would race the car in the newly formed Future Classics Challenge run by the Clasic Sports Car Club.

“Jez's season turned out to be a great success with 15 class wins from 17 races. Two non scores earlier in the year meant the pressure was on for the entire season with Jez having to score maximum points at each race (Pole, Win and Fastest lap) in order to have a chance of winning the championship overall.

Despite the early season catastrophe's, and with constant help from Neil in repairing and preparing the car, Jez managed to stay in contention all the way to the last two races of the season where racing funds ran dry.

At that point two sponsors PMC Ltd (Peter Morris) and Rapid Racking joined with Jeremy to ensure he race for the two class wins at the Silverstone Britcar 24hrs Porsche rounds, and then to part fund the travel costs to Spa Franchorchamps for the final nail biting rounds of the 2008 Porsche Club Championship battle.

“Despite no testing and having never visited the circuit before, Jez set Class 3 pole position in wet conditions 12 seconds faster than Sarah Bennett Baggs in her 2nd placed Class 3 Porsche 911, and setting a time that placed him in 2nd place on the Class 2 grid !!

The two races were not without their dramas with Bennett Baggs and Adrian Stock both challenging Jez for the lead in race one, in race two Jez lost all the ABS braking on the car after two laps during a torrential downpour that didnt stop until the chequered flag fell 60 minutes later, Jez a comfortable Class 3 winner and Overall Porsche Club Champion 2008!

It was a very emotional Jez that crossed the finish line and once out of the car, embraced his team mates Andy Lambert and Mike Barnes who had been a great pitcrew and good friends all season, ultimately Jez owed it all to Neil Chilleystone for lending Jez and trusting him with his pride and joy. Thanks Neil.
